Global High-End Think Tank

The China Energy Fund Committee (Hong Kong) (hereinafter referred to as “CEFC”) has established a high-end international think tank to carry out strategic research on international energy security and promote public diplomacy. As an NGO, it has been granted special consultative status with the United Nations s Economic and Social Council.

 

- CEFC is headquartered in Hong Kong with more than 10 offices in the United States, Canada and other countries and regions. The advisors and researchers of CEFC include former heads of government from a dozen countries and over a hundred political leaders. As a long-term partner of the United Nations and the European Union institutions, CEFC has started strategic cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA), the RAND Corporation, the National Committee on American Foreign Policy, the Club of Rome, the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS), United States Energy Security Council (USESC), Silk Road Think Tank Network (SiLKS), and other international organizations and think-tanks.

- CEFC helped to establish and fully funded the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD), an international cooperation platform, with Vuk Jeremić, President of the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, serving as its President, and dignitaries from different countries as advisors and researchers on international issues and sustainable development.

 

- CEFC has joined hands with the UN in launching the Annual UN-CEFC Grand Award for Energy Sustainability, encouraging and recognizing exemplary individuals and organizations in the global energy arena for their continued contributions to a better world for mankind through efforts in research and the sustainable development of energy. It is the first UN energy award organized and funded by a Chinese NGO.

 

- CEFC has entered into a strategic cooperation with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on global climate change researches and sustainable development by funding its scholarship program to help young scientists from developing countries with their studies on climate change, in order to enhance developing countries’ capacities in understanding, analyzing and addressing climate change issues.

 

- CEFC launched, in the past 5 years, nine sessions of “Sino-US Colloquium”, a platform for former high-ranking military officers from China, the United States and other countries to exchange views and opinions on major global issues.

 

- CEFC has organized, since 2014, an annual forum under the theme of “A China Story” at the UN headquarters introducing China’s experience in sustainable development for mutual communication and development.

 

- CEFC jointly established the International Energy Research Center and the national energy database with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to conduct research on major energy issues and to establish public platforms for energy diplomacy, with a view to promoting energy development. The center brings together experts on energy strategy from China and abroad, with Du Xiangwan, Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, engaged as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Center.

 

- CEFC publishes yearly energy reports and launches in 2015 a monthly English-language journal CEFC China Energy Journal, the first publication started in China on energy industry, which analyzes energy policies of China.
