From November 3 to 5, 2016, the 15th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (the 15th APK) was held in Hong Kong. Sigmar Gabriel, the Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, attended the whole event and made a keynote speech. More than a thousand people took part in the conference, including senior government officials, business elite and special guests from over a hundred countries and regions. At the invitation of the Vice Chancellor and Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Co-President of the Club of Rome, and entrusted by Ye Jianming, Chairman of the Board of CEFC China, Jiang Chunyu, Director of CEFC China’s International Center, and Wang Donghua, Vice President of CEFC Group (Europe) Company, led a delegation of four to the gathering.
The event served as a core platform for business exchanges among economic leaders, senior officials and government delegates from Germany and the Asia-Pacific, in an effort to boost communication and cooperation between Europe’s largest economy and one of the world’s fastest-growing regions. Centered on the three topics of “Introducing New Technologies”, “Creating an Interactive Environment” and “Sharing Ideas and Experience from the perspectives of Asia and Germany”, the conference consisted of 18 sessions including keynote speeches at the opening ceremony, meal sessions and panel discussions. The CEFC China delegation’s active participation in exchanges and interactions throughout the whole event, under the leadership of Jiang, displayed the company’s brand and style and built a good international image for Chinese private enterprises.
There have been 119 pending or completed Chinese acquisitions in Europe so far this year. Within just less than six months since the new year, Chinese investors offered to buy 24 German companies. China has now become Germany’s most sought-after business partner. Given the political and financial backdrop, the delegation’s active participation in the 15th APK will create a favorable exchange platform and cultural environment for CEFC China to explore the European market and establish an international investment bank integrating energy investment and financial services in the course of serving China’s Belt and Road Initiative and implementing the “Going Global” campaign.
