Feast of Knowledge Burst with Clash of Thoughts in Academic Exchange– CEFC China Delegation Present at 2017 Annual Conference of Club of Rome

On 9th and 10th November, 2017, the 2017 Annual Conference of the Club of Rome (the Club) was held in Vienna, the capital city of Austria. Over 100 important members and invited guests from all around the world attended the conference including Ousmane Siemens, former Vice President of the World Bank and senior advisor to incumbent President of the World Bank as well as Tomoyo Nonaka, who formerly served as Vice President of Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd., and now Chair and Founder of GAIA Initiative. At the invitation of the 2 co-Presidents of the Club – Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker and Anders Wijkman, delegates including Zhang Haohan, Director of the Strategy Research Institute of Jiangsu Huasense Technology Co. Ltd., and Jiang Liuyi, Director of Canada Office took part in the Conference, delivering speech and engaging in discussion several times on behalf of CEFC China.


Themed with “Extreme and Political Crisis in the World”, the conference, with 15 forums being held, centered on sustainable development goals, solution to the climate change and reform in international politics. The conference coincided with the general election of the executive committee of the Club, with von Weizsäcker and Graeme Maxton being reelected as President and Secretary General respectively.

In the opening ceremony, Director Zhang Haohan delivered a keynote speech, representing Ye Jianming, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CEFC China. He elaborated on the grand occasion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (19th CPC National Congress); the Report made by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and the socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era proposed by him; an eco-system where the respect to nature and green development prevail; the building of a sound society blessed with blue sky, green land and crystal-clear water; the interconnectivity between the dream of Chinese people and that of the people in other countries; the perseverance in building a community of shared future for mankind and fulfilling the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. The above key points won the acclaim of the delegates present. The majority of the members of the Club attached great importance to the 19th CPC National Congress, many of who had carefully studied the Report, believing that the Report points out the direction ahead for the developing countries in the world.

During the Annual Conference, the delegation of CEFC China met with the leaders of the Club. On behalf of the Honorary President of the Club Ye Jianming, they extended congratulations to President von Weizsäcker, Anders Wijkman and Secretary General Graeme Maxton on their re-election and greetings to all the members of the Club. The two co-Presidents, von Weizsäcker and Anders Wijkman as well as Secretary General Graeme Maxton expressed their gratitude to the support from Chairman Ye Jianming. Secretary General Graeme Maxton added that, it was expected to continue the cooperation with CEFC China in pursuit of win-win results in promoting the sustainable development on a global basis; tackling climate change; pushing ahead the building of a community of shared future for mankind and expanding their influence in the world and so on. Also, the delegation conducted in-depth communication and reached consensus with business elites, experts and professors such as Ousmane Siemens, former Vice President of the World Bank and senior advisor to current President of the World Bank as well as Tomoyo Nonaka, former Vice President of Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd.
