CEFC China Fulfills CSR Through All-round Participation in Public Welfare

On the afternoon of December 20, 2017, the Seminar on Promoting Innovation in Social Governance Practices under the Guiding Principles of the 19th CPC National Congress, co-organized by the Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Social Work Commission and the Office of the Shanghai Municipal Social Construction Commission, and hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Social Construction Academy, was held in Shanghai. Presided over by Yuan Jianguo, Inspector of the Party Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Social Work Commission, the seminar was attended by Sun Ganlin, Secretary of the Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Social Work Commission and Director of the Office of the Shanghai Municipal Social Construction Commission, Li Youmei, First Vice President of the Shanghai Academy-jointly set up by the CASS and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Zhang Wenhong, Director of School of Sociology and Political Science, Shanghai University, among other leaders, experts and scholars. Chan Chauto, President of CEFC China and Vice President of the Shanghai Municipal Social Construction Academy, was present at the seminar and delivered a keynote speech.

Chan Chauto noted that strengthening and making innovations in social governance, with an ultimate goal to ensure and improve people’s well-being, constitutes an essential part of China’s effort in improving and developing the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernizing its governance system and capacity. In this regard, enhancing the capability of resources integration and cohesion in public welfare programs serves as one of the crucial components in the systematic project of social governance innovation.

Chan Chauto also elaborated on CEFC China’s efforts in fulfilling its CSR in the following five aspects: aiding the poor through education, engaging in China’s poverty alleviation efforts, supporting higher education research, funding cultural education and awareness-raising campaigns, and helping the disadvantaged groups. He noted that fulfillment of CSR lays the foundation of sustainable development of a corporation, and any corporation that seeks sustainable development must, first and foremost, be a socially responsible “corporate citizen”. According to him, CEFC China, upholding the guiding principles of the 19th CPC National Congress, and the company’s original aspiration of “serving the country and contributing to the society”, will forge ahead in promoting public welfare to make more achievements and create greater value for the society.
